Ancient Beginnings (to 600 BCE)
We had to come from somewhere, right? This period focuses on how and why humans begin settling down (mostly choosing a sedentary existence over a nomadic one), how knowledge of farming allowed for that sedentary lifestyle, and how having lots of people live in close contact with one another required a level of organization not seen before in human prehistory. We also see the beginning of history (thanks to writing, because without writing, we have no documents with which to know/write history!), written literature (here's looking at you, Epic of Gilgamesh), and the first clear understanding of religious belief and religious institutions (mostly polytheistic).
